Satish Kumar Bonthu

Satish Kumar Bonthu received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Production and Industrial Engineering and his master’s in Engineering Mechanics with a major in Thermo-fluids from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. In 2019, he earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Innovation and Design Thinking (PGDID) from the Emeritus Institute of Management.

Following his studies, he spent over 16 years working in the international engineering sector, holding leadership roles including Director of Engineering at a fast-growing startup, Technical Advisor, and Strategic Advisor, alongside positions as consulting manager and technical lead.

Throughout his industry career, he directed and contributed to numerous high-value multiphysics and thermal management projects, gaining deep expertise in system standardization, techno-commercial evaluation, and cross-functional stakeholder management. This extensive background solidified his capability to bridge the gap between high-fidelity virtual prototyping and complex physical infrastructure deployment.

In 2022, he took a career break and began his PhD at the University of Iceland, where his research focuses on sustainable computing and the stability of Reduced Order Modeling (ROM) for resource-intensive acoustic simulations. Alongside his doctoral research, he actively drives advanced engineering applications and sustainability initiatives across the Nordic region.

His recent project portfolio spans multiple disciplines, including managing the aerodynamic validation of a high-speed rail pantograph system, simulating complex ray-tracing physics for the Tokarsky unilluminable room paradox, and optimizing the hydrodynamic efficiency of a whale-watching boat propeller for North Sailing. Additionally, his work includes numerical investigations of cavitation in piping systems to advance novel heat pump technologies, analysing toilet ventilation efficiency within the Nordic building context, and evaluating the socio-economic and environmental factors of the rapidly growing data center industry in Iceland.

His academic and industrial interests lie at the intersection of data-driven surrogate modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), aeroacoustics, and energy-efficient, sustainability-focused engineering design.
